Session 2 - Engineering, Architechture, Biology, and More!

Spark Studio

Get ready for Session Two, where the Sparks will turn their caps into hard hats and jackets into safety vests as we dive into an exciting new Quest all about building and engineering! This session will focus on Lego creations, building a cardboard city, exploring famous buildings, and constructing our very own toolboxes. Alongside these hands-on projects, the Sparks will also participate in our annual Pumpkin Run and celebrate Halloween with fun-filled activities. It will be a session full of creativity, teamwork, and festive excitement!

In French, the Group 1 Sparks will focus on learning about colours with the help of an autumn theme and emotions (joy, fear, surprise, etc.) as we prepare for Halloween. Group 2 will review emotions by playing with characters expressing all ranges of emotions. We'll also learn to name the rooms in the house by decorating paper houses for Halloween.

This session, Show and Tell, will land on Monday every week. Please see the image for more information!

Discovery Studio

Session Two is going to be a-door-able; the Rebels will become Architects! They will learn about measuring, using scale, and creating their own blueprints to show a floor plan and elevation plan for their dream Revel Academy. In the final weeks, they must turn their 2D drawings into 3D models for judging at the Architecture Digest Gala. Rebels will compete to be awarded either Most Likely to be Built or Most Innovative!

This session's Math Lab focus will be on 2D and 3D measurement. Following the building thinking studios protocol and routines developed in Session 1, Rebels will tackle new tasks to build skills like using a Metric ruler and other standard referents and a deeper understanding of concepts like perimeter, area and volume.

In Reader Writer, Rebels will be working on preparing for a Journey Meeting with their families. We will be writing scripts, creating invitations, role-playing to practice and then meeting with you to discuss their goals.

This session in French, Group 1, while exploring the theme of monsters, will review colours, emotions and numbers. The Rebels will describe and create monsters, practicing physical descriptions and emotions in French. For Group 2, the theme is mythological monsters. This theme will enable us to practice verb tenses, emotions and physical characteristics in French. The Rebels will be invited to do their first writing exercise in French by writing a story about monsters from mythology.

We will also be busy having so much fun with seasonal-themed activities, such as participating in our annual Pumpkin Run and celebrating Halloween.

Exploration Studio

Welcome to Session 2! Each week of this Biology Quest, Rebels will participate in challenges and games concerning a different part of biology – from the tiniest of organisms to systems that affect our entire planet and from the dawn of time to the latest scientific breakthroughs. Learners will be exposed to the experimental method, dissection, simulations, and various hands-on activities in order to further their understanding of cells, plants, animals, and our biosphere!

This session's Math Lab focus will be two-fold. First, Rebels will tackle a series of tasks designed to develop their financial literacy further. Secondly, we will take the protocol and routines from the last session's theme of building thinking studios and highlight the making of meaningful notes. We will use a four-quadrant template each week to capture worked examples and things to remember.

In the next Session in Reader Writer, the Rebels will learn about Journalism for a two-session badge run by our Launchpad student, Clay!

This session in French will focus on oral and written comprehension. Rebels will read or listen to stories and answer comprehension questions. They will also record or write a scary story to practice their French verb tense, description and syntax.

In Civilizations, we will research and discuss the Battle of Marathon, The Persian Wars, Plato vs. Aristotle on Private Property, Hippocrates' Oath and Medical Ethics, Daily Life in Rome and the History of the Rise and Fall of Rome.

Launchpad Studio

Our Launchpad learners will continue to challenge themselves in their personalized coursework, including AP Language and Composition, AP Literature and Composition, AP Biology, SAT Prep, Canadian and International Law, Russian, Spanish, Archaeology, and more!

In our Comm/Lit course, our learners will read and analyze Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and study Ancient Greece and Rome in Civilizations.

In our LP Biology Quest, our learners will cover cells, tissues, organs, and systems with several experiments and dissections to enhance their understanding.

Two of our Rebels will also be guiding in our younger studios, with one helping to lead our Discovery Civilization sessions and another running our Exploration Studio Journalism course!
